Description
This is a remodelling and expansion project for a physiotherapeutic clinic based on an office building, located at Portela, Sacavém, near Lisbon. For this intervention, Origem Arquitectos proposed a project based on a contemporary language that could reflect not only the physical renovation of the clinic and the client’s business, but also of the physiotherapeutic activity itself. Conceptually this intervention operates the space, conferring it with a sense of tranquillity and serenity – idyllic for the clinic’s activities.
The ambiences are dominated by natural light that interacts with natural materials and soft colours.
The access to the clinic is made by the reception area and the remainder of the clinic’s spaces develops alongside a longitudinal distribution corridor, from which one can reach the several treatments and specialized accompanying spaces: medical cabinet, hydrotherapy area, treatment zones and the specialized physiotherapeutic gymnasium.
Besides the physical intervention, this project also complements graphical signalling: all the public areas have “subtitles” on the doors, allowing for an intuitive reading of space and its functions. By opposition, the reading of the restricted areas is “camouflaged”. The project design and communication was made by the firm carrossel, under direct supervision of the designer Ione Almeida.
