The ArchMedium in collaboration with the Iaac - Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, has been developing STCenters, a new competition platform to investigate and develop another type of competitions, with the goal set on enriching the learning process of architecture students, going beyond the schools. With this goal in mind, STCenters is launching its most recent contest, stcRIO.
The contamination of our atmosphere is a problem that affects all countries of the world, and specially the big cities. Brazil, being one of the major emerging countries is set on developing an ambitious plan to keep growing, but in a sustainable and eco friendly way. The transformation has already begun in Rio de Janeiro, as the city get ready to receive millions of visitors for the upcoming Olympic Games. The site chosen to develop this Project is located in a privileged spot of Ipanema, one of Rio’s most representative and vanguard neighbourhoods. STC will be placed here aiming to become a hub for the activity that is already happening in the area, also adding the layer of the new electric infrastructure.
STCenters proposes a strong bet for electric cars inside this plan, making them into one of the standard mediums of transportation. In order for this to become a successful initiative there is a huge infrastructure that will need a centralized operations centre, from where the whole net of charging points will be controlled and managed. This operations centre will be the project that this stcRIO competition will focus on.
The contest registration period begins at January 12th 2012 and ends at February 19th 2012. The submission deadline is February 29th 2012. At 27th March 2012, the winners will be announced at the STCenters webpage.

Photography, a tool capable of capturing such a strong relationship, is the mean that best frames the peculiarity of an architectural work in relation to colour.
The proposed photographs will have to define colour as a theme and not as object of an argument. Moreover they will have to consider colour as the focus, not accessory, element of the cultural debate on Architecture. The Registration deadline is set to February 7th 2012 and the Photo submission deadline to February 15th 2012. The winners will be announced at March 20 2012
