Description

The new mountain bike hotel on the edge of Pregasina in Italy will offer sports enthusiasts a unique place to stay, unforgettable views and fast connections to an im¬pressive variety of routes, trails and single tracks.

Pregasina is situated on a plateau 500 meters above the northern tip of Lake Garda. A hill is a line-of-sight obstruction to an extensive view of the Alps. To totally exploit this panoramic potential, the new hotel will be situated on a steep mountain ridge on the southeastern edge of the small town, thus dissociating the new building from the traditional architecture.

A set of principles determined the draft: complete access by mountain bike at all levels, maximum use of panoramic view over Lake Garda and the moun¬tain slopes of the Alps, no impairment to the view from Pregasina and finally, full and individual accommodation of riders and sport equipment in each unit.

To ensure circulation, each access element has a tilt angle of 12°. The angle of the access routes differ from each other both by the natural mountain’s topography, but also by the decreasing vertical distance between the build¬ing and the mountain. These two factors generated the fixed points in the structure, as well as spaces in the metal frame that will hold the residential units. The access routes forms two different paths, connected on the top and bottom floors. This contiguous band system provides an optimal circulation and access to each residential unit. The main facade in a north-east orientation will ensure that each unit will enjoy a view of the northern tip of the lake, allowing at the same time a shading of the living areas. The public areas such as coffee shops, snack bar, sun deck and a media room are located on the top floor.

Biography

Philip Modest Schambelan was born in Katowice, Poland, in 1982, and raised in Germany as he graduated in Dresden.
Anton Fromm was born in former UDSSR, Russia, and raised in Leipzig, Germany, as he graduated in Dresden as well.
