Description

The UN Peace Park master plan was developed to promote and increase tourism in the city of Chungju, the birthplace of Ban Ki-moon, the current UN Secretary General. The new UN Memorial Building will be the focal point in the UN Peace Park, comprising a 1,500 seating assembly hall, 2 conference rooms, a theatre and exhibition spaces.

A memorial to the UN should represent the collective nature of the United Nations, where many individual nations come together to create something greater, without losing their own individual identities. The UN Memorial will stand out as a prominent structure within the UN Peace Park, becoming not only a local landmark but also a building of national and international significance.

The building cells represent the collective nature of the UN identity, holding different functions in the building, ranging from exhibition and education areas, to conference rooms, offices, a restaurant and public viewing platforms.

Biography

ACME was established in 2007 in London. The practice operates in the fields of contemporary architecture, urban planning, interior design and product design, working with private, corporate and public clients. Apart from its preoccupation with space, ACME has a number of interests and areas of experimentation, mainly ACME Fiori, ACME Light and ACME Paper, each area addressing subjects of short or long-term interest to the office.

On an urban scale, the office has completed a number of master plans including a 21 hectare public realm strategy for Bishopsgate Goodsyard, in London and a 35 hectare plan for Smithfield, locate at Birmingham. Other city centre master planning currently ongoing includes Parc Tawe in Swansea, Eastgate Quarter in Leeds and Colentina Quarter in Bucharest, Romania.

On the architectural field, ACME has worked on a number of projects in the UK, Germany, Spain, Korea, Romania, Syria, Lebanon, Bahrain and Dubai. Residential projects under construction or in design development include an 80 unit affordable housing development in Swansea, a 100 villa mountain resort in Syria and large single family residences in Norfolk, Hampton and Guildford.
